These rankings are as of the episodes premiering January 3rd to January 9th.
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. Ep. 15
I’d like to start off by apologizing. I put this anime off because of all that I was watching already last season and schoolwork, but man was I missing out. This anime is spectacular and so well written that I couldn’t resist binging every episode available at the moment. Rafal dying really caught me off gaurd but it has set off a chain of events that seem unstoppable now. Oczy has such an incredible arc and Badeni is such a genius that it makes me wonder who is next in line though I do have some ideas. But I must say, the strongest showing of writing was Nowak’s breakdown. For someone who is supposed to be someone we dislike, even while knowing that Jolenta is alive, I still teared up as he broke down. Simply masterful writing all around, this show would have been number one all season long and I cannot recommend it enough.
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
2. Solo Leveling. Ep. 1
Oh boy what a return! A1 is showing off with the incredible animation in this episode and it’s just a lot of fun to see Jin-Woo back. We also see Igris and Jin-Woo’s army which is a sight to see. This anime is just a lot of fun and while I prefer anime based on heavy plot and writing, man do I love my shonen/dumb fun anime. Also is that Lisa and Felix?! Man, never thought I’d see that but it’s awesome.
4. My Happy Marriage. Ep. 1
Oh man, it’s hard to hate a character only a minute after their introduction but man has this shown done it. I was prepared to go to war for Miyo who is too much of a sweetheart to be treated as such. Other than, this was a nice return to our lovely couple and their life together. Of course, there is much to come as it seems Miyo will play a big role soon but I hope she will come out unscathed and well. Also Hazuki hmu.
6. Rurouni Kenshin. Ep. 13
Great fight between Aoshi and Nenji but man was it brutal to have Misao arrive as the cuts spew blood. The heartbreak of watching that than the interaction with Aoshi is devastating and I wouldn’t be surprised if she tapped out after this. The fight itself was great, Nenji was still strong but Aoshi has surpassed even the previous leader and was just too much for Nenji.
3. Shangri La Frontier. Ep. 13
Ok, so new entry to the squad but they are hadnleing it well so I’ll allow it. If anything, it’s nice to see Emul again as she is just a lot of fun to watch. With Psyger-0 achieving their needed hits, I very much look forward to the ultimate attack, though I still wonder if that will be enough to beat Lycagon.
5. Ishura. Ep. 1
This shown right, this show right here man. Every character they introduce is so cool it baffles me. Like, the roaring horizon?! Come on, you can’t make a cooler name than that. He’s also a cool character to watch as well with a nonchalant, yet very caring nature. He has my support. We also get introduced to Kuuro who is cited as a main character so I look forward to his actions though it was very surprising to see him meeting with Elea.
7. Blue Box. Ep. 15
A late addition to the week but I had to add it just to say, nooooooo I like Hina! But man Chinatsu was unbelievably likable this episode. The struggle she faces is real and many, if not most, have felt the sensation of ineptitude or being unqualified at one point in their life. While I love Hina for being confident and actively seeking, Chinatsu’s allure came off like a rocket this episode.
B: Good/Solid
7. Fairy Tail. Ep. 2 FINAL
Gosh, it feels sad to see this go again but they setup what is to come nicely. I really just enjoy watching everyone from Fairy Tail and listening to the awesome OST and watching the fun fights. Fairy Tail’s biggest strength has always been just that, it’s a fun show with likable characters and it’s easy to support them as such. Now, the mood dragon has revealed their true strength and will have some powerful companions at her side so I wonder how our group will handle it. However they do, I look forward to joining them once again. Also! It was awesome to see their counterparts again, perhaps it alludes to what is to come.
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
8. The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World. Ep. 1
Ok, hear me out. Ecchi. I will hear no more arguments, I am the Echhi connoisseur. Of course, I understand that most are trope filled, boring sloshes, but even slosh can be enjoyable. Is this one so? That is to be determined. There is a big differnce between Ecchi and Ecchi light, and so far this is aiming for light at which point I will drop it. As for the first episode, it’s fine. I think the girl at the inn gave some snu snu for some favors which was surprising, other than that, all I can say is if you are going to be an Ecchi, be an Ecchi.
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
