Anime Summer 2024 Weekly Ranking August 6th to August 15th

These rankings are as of the episodes premiering August 6th to August 15th

S: Must Watch

Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.

1. NieR:Automata Ver1.1a (Cour 2). Ep 6

A2 meeting Lily was great and long awaited. A2 has changed a lot, a lot of her decisions now driven by hate while Lily is driven by the respoibilty of protecting others. It’s a nice constrast given the fact that they changed from the same event. I am interested in A2’s role in the story from here on, she was fun to watch this episode and I like her Tsundere like personality. As for 9S, I fear he will be driven by hate for some time or until he realizes that he has misjudged A2. All in all, cannot wait for me from this anime. On a final note, by gawd, A2 is something else. That is all, enjoy the episode.

2. Oshi No Ko. Ep. 7

This was a great episode focused on the history between Akane and Kana. Their first interaction is just unfortunate timing as Kana was already driven into a the harsh reality of struggling as an actress even with her talent. Akane will do all she can to beat Kana, but victory will be better unless she can drag out the Kana of old that has overpowering acting. The scene with Akane looking down on Kana was fantastic, the voice did a perfect job on conveying Akane’s emotions. Kana stopping herself from performing to the best of her ability was heartbreaking as well, the trauma of her past struggles still chain her down but I hope this will change by the end of the play. On a final note, Akane is my favorite girl of the show. Miyako is still best woman of course, but It’s hard to deny what is great character Akane is.

A: Very Good

Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.

3. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. Ep. 6

Best episode yet, my NaLu heart lives! Seriously, I’ve always these to two to get married. Now, it was very interesting to see the reveal of the fire dragon god and his connection to Natsu. He’s on another level and I wonder if Natsu could ever beat him as is, his flames are enough to burn Natsu himself after all. I liked the fight and ending as well, a power far beyond anything Natsu has wielded almost makes him lose control, but our hero Lucy is there for him. Also, she could tell something was off from the start as she does mention this the first time she has ever feared his fire. Heavy ending, but one that I am a big fan of. Super excited for the rest of the anime now and I hope we can get more deep moments like this, though it is Fairy Tail so I won’t expect something heavy often. Still, let them marry each other!!

5. Suicide Squad Isekai. Ep. 10

What a fun anime. The reveal of Joker at the end was great, but man, joker having that ability in the real world would be terrifying. I don’t want to reveal too much but I did enjoy the show overall, I believe a lot of the casting choices were perfect, especially Harley. There were some questionable animation moments but there were also some awesome shots like Harley rampaging past a bunch of enemies. The final episode was the most fun as well, seeing the transformation alone was awesome. Overall, I would recommend this show as it’s just a lot of fun and the characters are awesome to watch.

7. The Elusive Samurai. Ep. 6

This is one of the anime in contest for best animation of the season. The style changes and stellar animation are awesome to watch and we have two of the best animated shows of the season on the same day. The escape was great and Genba showed some great skill in his battle, he’ll be a great addition to the team and will set Tokiyuki up for some great escapes. While this was great, Takauji stole the episode. His battle against the emperor’s son made him look like a threat beyond the comprehension oh normality. I agree that someone like that can’t be assassinated and in only two years Takayuki will have to face him. For now I worry about our chances but I have confidence Takayuki will succeed.

9. No Longer Allowed in Another World. Ep. 6

Tama is a princess?! Also she is adorable with her long hair. The reason for cutting off her hair is heartbreaking and I can see why she trains and wants to prove herself to her father. Of course, Sensei is just an awesome as usual and still addresses her as just Tama which is what she would want. We’re heading into a battle with another other worlder in the next episode, I look forward to Sensei kicking butt while drowning himself in his endless supplies of pills.

10. Days with my stepsister. Ep. 7

My favorite part of this anime are still the various camera angles they use for many scenes, it helps draw the viewers attention and is pleasant to watch. This episode has a big focus on Ayase’s growing emotions. With the reveal of what they are at the end, I wonder what they stem from. Perhaps from Asamura himself, or from those around him. Whatever the case, I believe this is building for something big and look forward to it.

4. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. Ep. 19

Oh yea, the ship has sailed. I enjoyed this episode and arc overall, it was much needed growth for Lawrence. He has had difficulty with understanding what he feels for Holo and this arc finally allows him to be honest and realize what he feels for her. Great, however! I cannot agree with all of Holo’s actions. Of course, Lawrence does share some blame here, but Holo did make some questionable decisions. She never meant to betray Lawrence and instead was helping him in her own way, but I believe a simple, “I’m mad at you but will help you win this duel.” would have been enough for the two to avoid unnecessary stress and drama. She could have still pushed him to reveal or understand his own emotions by pushing him with her wise tongue, but the two allowed their own egos to get in the way of things. While I can’t agree with all her actions, I like how real this is. Relationships aren’t perfect and neither are people, I do not expect them to be in stories either. As frustrating as some of this was, I enjoyed the fact that this is something that is very common: weak communication. With this arc, I hope their communication will improve, and if it does then I will see this as the most important arc of the show so far. Good job, this is what makes a good arc. Conflict and good writing, but the results must remain. Of course, I am confident that they will.

6. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! Ep. 5

This anime has the best art style and possibly the best animation of the season, it is a delight to watch every episode. Great job to the team at A1. This episode was fun, watching Anna lose her mind a little more every episode is hilarious. Now, I do wonder what Lemon and Mitsuki are doing. They are childhood friends but it is important to understand that implications of them being together can create. I understand Chihaya’s worries, it’s heartbreaking in it’s own right, but it doesn’t guarantee that he is cheating. A good conversation can settle the worries, but communication skills are never the strongest as a youngster, or for adults for that matter. For now, I hope Kazuhiko can find a way to explain himself.

8. The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies. Ep. 6

Shun is an absolute killer when it doesn’t involve Byukuya. I get, I get Shun. This episode introduces Hibana who is excellent at expressing herself and I already like her a lot. While this episode was meant to introduce her, Byukuya stole the show. Seeing her working in construction, her 20th job at this point, while thinking of Shun was great. But her line, “There’s a recession everywhere you look.” was the line of the season. Man, I really like this show.

11. Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian. Ep. 7

Surprised to learn more about Masachika’s past, though I may have missed the fact they come from a family with maids. Maria is my favorite girl so far, she gives such a caring feel that I favor in general. I know we have a main girl, and she’s voiced by my favorite voice actress, but so far I’m drawn to Maria the most. The confrontation at the end also came out of left field; me personally, I wouldn’t let someone to talk me like that. I do see a good battle coming from the groups, I just hope the siblings stay as close as they are.

B: Good/Solid

12. My Wife Has No Emotion. Ep. 7

Mina is back! I wonder what upgrades she got besides the size expansion. I have to agree with Takuma, tall or short both are good. Mamoru is also adorable and I look forward to our new family continuing to grow together. It seems Mina was surprised once she looked up the meaning of having her own child with Takuma as well, I hope she’ll enjoy the new addition as much as Takuma is. Sweet episode and look forward to the next arc.

14. The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season 2. Ep. 19

This was a crazy episode, they really kicked up the fan service to another level. Last season had some, but I think they’re playing to their strengths more than ever. Hey, cute girls and fan service sells, just look at rent-a-girlfriend. I don’t mind, there’s a place for anime like this, watching masterpieces like Frieren and AOT is great, but every now and then I just need some brainless entertainment to get me by.

13. Atri -My Dear Moments- Ep. 5

This was a great, feel good episode. I’m super happy that they built the turbine and it works, we also have the return of Catherine as a teacher. Now, I must talk about Atri. She is such a great character with a lot mystery behind her origins and what she is. But in this episode a faint memory and her emotions stand out. I wonder if she struck someone without thinking about it before, and I enjoy that she is able to voice her own desires. I believe more people will come after her but I hope she will always find a way back to Natsuki. Overall, Atri is a sweetheart and I wish the best for her.

15. Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? Ep. 6

I do wonder what the machine looking women is and what their end goal is. For now it seems that they benefit from the war between races and are intent on keeping it going. The emperor’s own greed has resulted in the loss of many and perhaps his own life, we’ll have to wait until next episode to see. Of course, he was betrayed by the beauty next to him but hey I can’t blame him. A battle is sure to come but I hope it will be better than the anticlimactic finish of the last battle.

C: It’s ok/Fine

These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.

D: Do Not Recommend

Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.

F: Bad

Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
