Anime Summer 2024 Weekly Ranking August 2nd to August 8th

These rankings are as of the episodes premiering August 2nd to August 8th

S: Must Watch

Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.

1. NieR:Automata Ver1.1a (Cour 2). Ep 5

Is this anime of the year? Sincerely, as much as I enjoyed some other anime, this anime has been nothing but stellar so far, such is the quality of writing. Another look into A2’s memories is even more heartbreaking than before, a forgone conclusion to which she had little power to stop. To lose a family as she did is heart wrenching, and I can understand the hatred she built because of it and look forward to following her story from here on. This anime is just captivating from start to finish, each scene important, the dialogue noteworthy, the plot incredible. Without a doubt the anime of the season so far and with the potential to be even better than my favorite anime of the year. Please watch this, it’s fantastic and something deserving of all the praise in the world. Bravo A1 and the team behind NieR:Automata, bravo.

2. Oshi No Ko. Ep. 6

One of the best episodes of the show so far. I did not expect such growth from Melt, but watching him put in the effort to bring out the emotions of his character and put on a stellar scene was great. Yoriko was most critical of him, which is understandable. Watching him draw emotion from her was great and a testament to his efforts. Aqua gave some great advice as well, I enjoy how he can be kind in these moments. now, I do wonder if Aqua will be able to follow his own advice however. Melt drew from his frustration to put on great scene, but if Aqua does so it could lead to some undesired results.

A: Very Good

Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.

3. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! Ep. 4

May have been my favorite episode yet. Yanami and Nukumizu making up was good as well as the resolution with her childhood crush. Nukumizu gave some solid advice during that scene, kudos to him. Komari did get turned down, but she took it well overall and doesn’t hold anything against her rival which is admirable to her. I do agree that Shintarou’s confession was awful and caused a terrible misunderstanding. Now, I do wonder what the endgame of this story is. Are we getting a final ship with one of the main girls? I find it difficult to decide who would be best. Yanami is the front runner of course, but she has blue hair which is historically known to lose the war of love. Who wins? Well, the world may never know, unless you read the manga which is something I may do with the anime finishes.

5. The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies. Ep. 5

Anytime a show has credits at the start, it’s going to be a fire episode. This one did not disappoint. I think the ending alone made this a stellar episode. Byakuya’s inability to express herself is well paired by her own fear of the storms that she has endured alone much as she has endured her hardships alone, until the arrival of best boy Shun. Him leading her into asking him to stay may have been the scene of the week so far in a heavy season as well. The care he shows for her is just so wonderful and seeing her ask him to stay made my heart melt. Of course, they are enemies, but if an enemy cares for you like this the who needs friends. Truly wonderful episode, I am so glad I picked this up.

7. Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian

I’ve been watching this show since the start but it flew right over my head that I didn’t put it in. Now, the reason I started watching is because Sumire Uesaka is my favorite voice actress, I enjoy her performance though my favorite will always be her performance as Lum. As for the episode, it was tad slower than most. We got the Yuki and Alya confrontation and some brave declaration from both. I do look forward to the war for presidency as well, Yuki will be difficult to beat and it seems she has brought in a troublesome partner as well. I also I enjoy the different endings for this anime, it’s a small touch but very enjoyable.

9. No Longer Allowed in Another World. Ep. 5

Sensei is so cool man. His biggest strength is his intelligence, or maybe his fearlessness as he doesn’t mind dying at any point. Near is a welcome introduction as well, I hope Sensei will be a good role model for him, though I hope the desire to die doesn’t rub off on him. Also got some great world building this episode and the new problem plaguing the world. Also, was that Sensei’s lover? The mystery only continues and my love for the show only grows. Edit! On a second look, the woman we see in a kimono has the red string they tied to each other so I believe it is her! I wonder what role she will play, and has played in the story so far, only time will tell. She was shown (again assuming this is her) with the group of other worlders that defeated the dark lord, the mystery only rises!

4. The Elusive Samurai. Ep. 5

New retainer Gamba! He’s ability is incredibly useful, but it will be difficult to convince to join the elusive warriors. Of course, I believe Tokiyuku will find a way but it will only be after some dangerous encounters coming up in the next episode. The ending of the horseback archery battle was great as well, combining Tokiyuki’s skills will make him a threat even amongst his troublesome retainers.

6. Suicide Squad Isekai. Ep. 9

Nagase Anna is the perfect choice for Harley Quinn, I cannot praise her enough for her performance this entire anime. This episode was a lot of fun as well with the reveal of the true evil and some cool fights. Nana- chan is ok and he has america! watching his back so he should be ok. Arty also makes a comeback to save the ever lovable Harley. There has been some questionable animation, but there has also been some amazing animation as well with this episode having some of it. Looking forward to the last episode but I would have like to see more of the crew as well as they’re a lot of fun to watch.

8. Days with my stepsister. Ep. 6

Glad Saki passed her test, though she didn’t manage to beat Yuuta she did very well for herself. Yuuta’s caring nature came through this episode as well, I believe he cares for Saki a lot but I wonder just how far their emotions will go. Given the tone of the show I don’t believe they are endgame but I’ve seen crazier endings before. Overall nice episode.

10. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. Ep. 5

I would like to see the white mages power if all of Fairy Tail fell to her, they are the strongest after all. The water dragon’s fate does sadden me, as of now it looks like we have to beat him to stop the rampage. His strength also looks to be a level above with pulling the sea into the sky. This does make me wonder what a dragon god willing to fight and in control would be like, hope to see this in future episodes. Overall, ok episode as I find it hard to believe all of Fairy Tail fell so easily, though I could some tricky magic putting them to sleep.

B: Good/Solid

11. My Wife Has No Emotion. Ep. 6

It’s time for upgrades, I do wonder what Mina chose and we’ll know next week so I look forward to the next episode. Mina being inspected hurt my heart, it seemed as if she didn’t want Takuma to see it happening. Of course, Takuma sees Mina as family so she’s safe from losing her memories and that does provide a sense of comfort. Nice episode overall, hope her upgrades are nice next episode.

13. The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season 2. Ep. 18

Ami made an offer many would die for this episode, Hayato has incredible self control or unbeleable low libido. Whatever the case, I enjoyed the episode and Ami’s reunion with her grandma. It’s understandble for her to be heartbroken about the ordeal but the outcome was nice and Hayato did well with his quick thinking. It seems next episode will be filled with some fan service; I understand some fans don’t like it but, as for me, I can’t wait for it.

12. Atri -My Dear Moments- Ep. 4

More mystery behind Atri and what she is. She can hit humans which means she’s either far advanced other humanoids, or far broken. Or, just very high performance. I’m glad Natsuki won’t sell or use her battery; he’s terrible at expressing it but he does care for her. We are at a difficult hurdle however, we need to find batteries sooner than later. It’s nice to see Natsuki and Ryuuji working together as well, here’s to them finding what they need and succeeding.

14. Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? Ep. 4

Animation was a bit off in some places and I believe Vanessa went down too easy. Of course, she could have a glass canon build in which case, fine. The rest of the battles have been set up wit h the reveal that the world has been rewritten, the only question is who? I do wonder how many heroes we will meet given the pace we are going at now, I believe we will meet all of them, though that is very fast. Overall, ok episode with the highlight of a tempting offer from Vanessa.

C: It’s ok/Fine

These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.

15. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Ep. 65

It finally happened, I’ve lowered the ranking of this anime. The introduction of the lightspeed hero was fine but, of course, he’s just Rimuru 2.0. What I mean by this is everything just works out for him, sound familiar? Watching this anime is becoming more difficult by the episode. It’s not bad, but not good either, just fine. Wouldn’t recommend in a season with such strong anime or, in general, just more entertaining anime.

D: Do Not Recommend

Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.

F: Bad

Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
