Anime Summer 2024 Weekly Ranking August 16th to August 22nd

These rankings are as of the episodes premiering August 16th to August 22nd

S: Must Watch

Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.

1. Oshi No Ko. Ep. 8

Wow, each episode only becomes better. The return of Arima Kana is great, I believe she deserves to act as she likes and has the talent prosper. Seeing the difficulties of her past only make me root for her more but seeing Akane helping Aqua with his anxiety continues to put her at the top of my best girl list. Also, Akane now has even more fuel to use as she attempts to beat her greatest rival. Now, the chance in focus to Aqua for the last third of this episode was incredible. His conviction to hating acting, to using his pain and guilt to fuel his performances is heartbreaking, but as shown at the end with his spectacular outburst of emotion proves it effectiveness. Still, I fear for the results it will have at the end on Aqua. With any luck, our girls will help him recover, though we do know Akane is willing to delve into darker territory to help Aqua. Can not wait for the revival scene, it may be the best of the season if done right. If you aren’t watching this show, go watch it now!!!!!

A: Very Good

Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.

2. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. Ep. 7

Erza has a twin?! Also Fairy Nail has to have some copyright issues. Glad Lucy stopped Natsu and that her wounds healed, though I do believe Natsu may lose control during more intense battles. As we move forward onto the next dragon, we also have more antagonist coming into play, I wonder if all of them will interject with the dragon gods. Going forward, I want each of the crew to shine, Erza may be the focus this time around and I’m all for it.

4. The Elusive Samurai. Ep. 7

Yorishige is staring! Losing the ability to see the future would also make me an anxious wreck. I enjoyed the introduction of Fubuki, he’s strong and got a kind heart that will work well with Tokiyuki. Now, we do know that half a year has passed and this does worry me. While the young lord has grown, Takauji is a person powerful beyond reason and I don’t see Tokiyuki beating him now. Hopefully he will continue to grow, but he’ll need a big power up soon.

5. No Longer Allowed in Another World. Ep. 7

I really like Sensei’s OST. I have no sympathy for gluttony, but I believe that was the author’s intention which is very well done. Matilda was meant to be the focus here and are sympathy is drawn to her, it’s very well written. Really enjoyed the focus on her and her power up. Sensei taking a smoke break was awesome, the guy is just too likeable.

7. Days with my stepsister. Ep. 8

Asamura is fighting hard with Shin for best man of the season. Both are incredibly caring and do wish the best for their respective girl. Ayase does have some bad habits but it’s understandable given her goals and worries, I enjoy how realistic of a character she is. Kind and easy going, but can also be stubborn and fall into bad habits. They’re both great characters. We’re also getting a pool episode so that will be fun. Also, who was the girl who picked up Asamura’s item? I like her design and hope we see more of her. For now, let’s leave it at that.

3. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. Ep. 20

Oh boy, that tease from Holo would make most men fold. I’m glad we have our favorite banter back in full force, and with at even greater heights now that the two are clear about how they feel about each other. Their relationship is still in a grey zone but leans towards being a couple. There is information about the abbey being kept from Lawrence, I wonder the reasoning behind keeping it a secret, but I am confident the now stronger team of Holo and Lawrence will be able to get the information they need and move forward. Also, it seems we aren’t the only surprising couple in the village.

4. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! Ep. 6

What a slip from Lemon, seeing the heartbreak in her eyes was horrible. I really like Lemon and the focus we have on her so far, I believe the pain and fear in her eyes was from the fear of ruining Mitsuki’s relationship and not because of her own feelings. Nukumizu running after her was great, he’s just a stand up guy that I believe doesn’t get enough recognition for how kind he is. Look forward to next episode as Lemon is most likely hiding her true feelings behind a smile, I hope the group visiting her can help her feel better. Side note, Yanami’s style is great. The scene showing off her detail in upscaled 4k quality was awesome.

6. The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies. Ep. 7

They have human forms?! Also Hibana is such a delight, her way of expressing herself is great. The home made game set is a true showing of the struggle however, Byakuya is the best representation of today’s economical conditions but she makes the best of it. The gathering at her home was also great, the familiars at odds with each other and Shun just being there to play a game is gold. This show continues to be great and I recommend giving it a watch.

8. Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian. Ep. 8

Oh, the heartbreak of a failed ship is a painful one, just ask MHA fans. The debate was nice, both sides had good points but as Kuze said, why are we even debating this? The president had to take some strays but it was all worth it for the victory. Overall enjoyable episode, Yuki continues to be a a joy to watch, but Alya has a draw to her that makes me root for her as well. Furthermore, Kuze has come into some valuable information he may want to verify in the future. Best of luck Kuze.

B: Good/Solid

9. My Wife Has No Emotion. Ep. 8

Mina squinting her eyes is always funny to me, there are times where she really wonders about Mamoru’s capabilities. Turns out Mamoru is also a prodigy with great learning abilities as well, the little guy is so adorable I hope he’ll become worthy of Mina’s praise soon. This episode was very sweet with the focus on him as well, though it can’t be ignored that Mina pulled a fast one to get herself a new plugin. Both of our robots are super likeable and I look forward to seeing them develop even more. It seems we’re going to get some backstory for Mina as well, I hope everything goes well.

11. The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Season 2. Ep. 20

Seems we’re focusing on meeting families for the rest of the season. It seems many of their traits run in the family, even some alcoholic tendencies. Man, the age old question of which girl will win is ever present in this anime. I must say, I have no clue. There are front runners of course, but then you have wild cards like Ami who has been groped multiple times at this point, could be what helps her through. Who do I root for? I can’t choose. I like how forward Akane is, it’s super attractive. Shiragiku has a caring nature that is also super attractive. Riho is a hard worker and is willing to point out flaws and help others improve, which is super attractive. Ami lets you touch boobs as a reward which, in my opinion, is super attractive. If there is anyone who I believe won’t win, it’s Ouka. She just doesn’t show any interest in Hayato. Whoever wins, the war will be interesting to watch.

13. Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? Ep. 7

Very fast episode. Everyone is put into their fights, and we have the final boss already. As fast as this is moving I hope we do get a major reveal of what or who rewrote the world as it is now, and why Kai is the only one with any memory of the past. The pace makes it difficult to enjoy the show a lot, but some good reveals could be a good point about the show.

10. Atri -My Dear Moments- Ep. 6

Oh wow it was Atri. That’s a major reveal I didn’t expect in a episode focused on finding about love interest. Glad to see the school going well and more students arriving. But the mystery girl did take center stage here, I wonder if Atri will have more of her memories now. There is a subtleness in this anime that makes me think they will need to separate in the end so I hope they can enjoy their time together.

12. 2.5 Dimensional Seduction

disturbing lack of Mikari this episode, but we got Mayuri who, in my opinion, is already best girl. My god I love her design. This episode does take on a more serious topic of cosplayers and their professional lives, it is saddening to know she had to leave a passion for it. Personally, I believe the two can be separate and not affect one another, but society has a ways to go before accepting that. Having the anime address that is pretty cool.

C: It’s ok/Fine

These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.

D: Do Not Recommend

Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.

That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime

I’m writing this as the episode continues, I’m not missing anything. I understand that importance of world building and general setup for later plot points, but this season has been atrocious in execution. Revealing Masayuki made me despise the show, how difficult is it to make a well written hero who isn’t just another Rimuru in this world? Another episode, maybe the 15th episode, of just more meetings and build. It’s tiring and any argument that this is what the show has always been or that it is good writing just doesn’t make sense to me anymore. When you consider the payoff for the first half of the season, it’s impossible to say that the half will be any better, I expect it to be worse in fact. We need a reason to watch, conflict, engaging plot, interesting arcs, something that makes me wonder what will happen or think about how Rimuru will overcome and take care of his people. But I already know, the guy will never be challenged, Masayuki doesn’t even want to fight him! I cannot recommend season 3. Season 1 was fun and interesting because he is a slime and it’s different with him being a monster setting up a kingdom of monsters. Season 2 has his ascension to demon lord and major conflicts that, while everything is made right at the end, still had moments I believed Rimuru was challenged. This season has nothing.

F: Bad

Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
