Anime Spring 2024 Weekly Ranking May 24th to May 30th
These rankings are as of the episodes premiering May 24th to May 30th
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation 2 Part 2. Ep. 19
Rudeus is a better man than me. Turning point 3 offered such a hard decision that I couldn’t make up my mind on which to choose. In this episode we’re given a solution to the long time he would need for the journey which is well deserved and set up. Watching Rudues and Elinalise fight together is awesome, but I do dread what is to come. As many have mentioned, turning point 3 isn’t just the single episode, but the entire arc itself. As such, I dread what is to come given the man god’s warning. Still, this is a show I look forward to watching and this episode delivered after two weeks of waiting.
3. Urusei Yatsura. Ep. 43
We must save Lum! Looking forward to see how Ataru will act here, episodes where he shows how much he cares for Lum have been my favorite. Also, this show continues to have the most stacked voice acting cast I’ve ever heard. Overall, good episode and we even got a cool new mid transition image.
2. Dungeon Meshi. Ep.
Senshi lore! Marcille best elf? How does this show continue to impress? On a trip to Japan the store animate had an entire section to this show and I can say that it was deserved. I expect even bigger reveals coming soon and know that it will be well done given the quality so far.
4. KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3 Ep.
I need to see this egg hatch. Awesome to see everyone gather to help Lalatina and the start of the episode had me giggling within seconds as I expect from Konosuba. Ending was interesting and can’t wait to see more.
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
5. Kaiju No. 8. Ep. 7
Awesome episode. Seeing the other humanoid was great, also interested to know if there are more given that they are numbered. Most of all, I’m looking forward to next episode as I wonder how the ending will be resolved.
6. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. Ep. 9
That ending broke my heart. It’s understandable that the stress would cause Lawrence to lash out, but I believe our MC has hurt Holo with careless actions too often by this point. I still love their chemistry and wit, but man, -5 for Lawrence. Still, the writing for this show is so good that I expect a quick redemption.
7. An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride. Ep 10
This show is much better than I thought it would be. For’s past has been a great driver for the plot, and the mystery only continues with Raphael having some connection with her. I complimented this show for having a realistic take on the socially awkward archetype, for having a nice, simple romance, but man, this arc has impressed me with the development of Zagan and a new connection he can learn to care for.
9. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3. Ep. 8
The culmination of saved budget pops up here. Every fight, short as some may be, is well done and entertaining. Overall good episode, but I must say, given the history of this show, I don’t expect anyone to actually by hurt if you’ve seen the ending.
8. WIND BREAKER
A nice resolution to the conflict. We got a lot of fights with superb animation and some insight to a lot of characters. Now I want to see how our MC will improve to reach the levels of those above him.
10. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc. Ep.3
I had to go watch the upper rank six fight after this episode. Uzui is my favorite hashira and knowing that he wants to fight hurts my soul. Tanjiro came in and displayed the deference in levels as expceted of him, overall good episode. Also, I will defend the theory that Uzui didn’t awaken his mark because he never believed he would die with everything I have.
B: Good/Solid
11. Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. Ep 8
Was not expecting a heavy hitting episode from this show but it is a pleasant surprise. Seeing deep-rooted and understandable issues from both sides makes it difficult to choose a side, so I wonder what our MC will decide to do. Of course, if it means best for his lovely wife, I’m sure he’ll do it.
12. Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again. Ep 8
Seeing another young elderly couple was fun. Some competition with a good resolution, this episode also introduces a love interest for another granddaughter.
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.
13. Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included
Lack of Towa was not appreciated. Now, I have an issue with how many anime portray social anxiety. I believe many suffer from it and it can be debilitating; however, most anime convey it in a way where the character seems incapable of even interacting with someone. I prefer shows with portrayals such as Zagan from how to love your elf wife this season, or Bochi from Bochi the rock. Both tend to overthink most interactions, but are still capable of interaction. At the very least, each character has another defining trait that characterizes them apart from their anxiety, such as Bochi being incredible with a guitar. Our portrayal today was unable to do so until the very end which leaves the viewer suffering until then without much of an explanation behind her anxiety. Not that one is needed, but that would add depth to a character other than pretty girl very shy. Also, new girl added to harem and is a kappa. Neat, but the issues of the show still make it a difficult watch.
14. The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases. Ep 10
After ten episodes, I feel nothing about our MC, not even enough to go look up his name. The connection he has with the newest, red hair girl (again, I have no desire to look up names), could have been interesting, a deep connection in which they must live through new reincarnations, linked together and forced to endure struggles of each. But no, our MC cannot face strife without solving it at the snap of a finger. And since he has so many characters around him, each eats up time which could be used to develop anything of interest. I’m too deep, and, as bad as this show, it’s not the worst I’ve watched, that is something I’ll write about soon.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
More Ranking to come!
I’ve fallen a little behind after taking a trip, but I’ll be sure to catch up soon! Thanks for reading!
