Anime Spring 2024 Weekly Ranking May 31st to June 6th
These rankings are as of the episodes premiering May 31st to June 6th
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation 2 Part 2. Ep. 20
I cannot rave about this show enough. The animation is great, the music is great, the voice acting is great, but most of all, the writing is spectacular. Rudy having a panic attack, Paul showing his vulnerability but still being capable, and of course, the long desired reunion between Rudeus and Roxy. My only worry is Paul painting some flags, but other than that, what a great episode.
3. KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3 Ep. 9
We’ve been robbed of Lalatina’s abs! The hilarity of this show never loses steam; Kazuma using Aqua’s blessing to imitate voices is hilarious and his attempt to escape still had me laughing after near ten minutes of straight comedy. Great Episode!
2. Dungeon Meshi. Ep. 23
Balancing a serious past and gret comedy into one episode is difficult, but I’ve come to expect nothing less from this show. Happy to see Senshi relieved, then fell out of my seat after the race changes. I look forward to this almost as much as Mushoku Tensei and wish it nothing but success.
4. Urusei Yatsura. Ep. 44
I want the love Karula gives. Unfortunate misunderstanding but I believe the payoff next episode will be worth it. Lum and Ten working together was a lot of fun to watch, the little guy is willing to fight to the end for his cousin and I love him for it. On a side note, I always find interesting how Aoi Yuuki is his voice actress, she’s one of my favorites, but man her range is unbelievable.
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
5. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. Ep. 10
Their reconciliation was very well done, I adore their interactions and need romance to bloom even if that may be a a foolish wish. I may have commented on this before, but Kevin Penkin is a genius and his work always elevate whatever show he is a part of. On a final note, I like their plan. Of course, It’s good to see characters have their worries but still being able to go against their morals. When times call for it, one must sacrifice such things, and the masterful writing of this anime conveys that well.
6. An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride. Ep 11
I Thoroughly enjoyed this episode from start to finish. Finding out that Raphael is as socially inept as Zagan is great, and he dropped the coldest line this episode. “You should not feel hate, but pride.” Yea, this show is great. I like to watch a lot of shows every season to see if I can find a hidden gem every season, so far, this is it.
7. Kaiju No. 8. Ep. 8
Excellent fight between Hoshino and Kafka. Also glad to see Kafka become an official member. Seeing everyone overjoyed by this announcement was nice, Kafka is just as liked inside the show as he is outside which is impressive.
B: Good/Solid
8. Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again. Ep. 9
Very heavy episode today, but a very enjoyable one. One thing this show does well is address the fears of mortality, and the desire to not want to leave loved ones behind. We see an action taken by a loving man, that I believe any husband would do for their wife. Grandma Saitou even says that she feared Grandpa Saitou being alone more than her own death. I like this show for conveying such fears in a realistic manner, and discussing topics like this is what has made it a worthwhile watch.
10. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3. Ep. 9
Diablos is one frightening individual. There is some satisfaction to seeing some fight being one sided, but I must say it has left me disappointed with Hinata’s team. I’m sure they’re all powerful, but that’s difficult to tell because Rimuru’s group is rarely challenged. Will that ever happen again? One can only hope.
12. Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. Ep 9
A nice fight from Fenrys showing off her skills. Interested to see how the war unfolds since Flio will likely have to participate with a bigger role soon. As much as I dislike the false hero, the girl with him is cute so I hope he catches a break soon, I’m all for a redemption arc.
9. WIND BREAKER. Ep. 10
Much chiller episode today, but we got some nice insight and calmness after the great battles. Umemiya reminds me of Shonen characters who have already finished their own show, the guy is just too cool and wonder if our MC could ever reach his level.
11. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc. Ep.4
The extension of the arc is giving scenes like Hashira training with each other which is fantastic. Good episode, animation is still stellar as I’ve come to expect from Ufotable. Looking forward to training with best Hashira Mitsuri next.
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
13. Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included
A nice episode for Izumi. Although I prefer other representations of social ineptitude such as Gazan from How to Love Your Elf Bride, I guess this anime at least shows some progress. Still not a fan of the MC, but Towa is a sweetheart.
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.
14. The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases. Ep 10
I can’t say enough bad things about this show. The scene of our MC saving everyone was lackluster, and then we have the scene between him and his… lives mate? Connected one? The red hair girl. After sharing multiple lives together, you’d think they would have learned to communicate and interact more comfortably with each other. But no, instead we have miscommunication and unnecessary drama. Spice the show up, have her die because of his lacking motivation and then we can at least begin cleaning up the corpse that is this show.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
More Ranking to come!
I’ve fallen a little behind after taking a trip, but I’ll be sure to catch up soon! Thanks for reading!
