Anime Winter 2024 Weekly Ranking April 18th to April 23rd
These rankings are as of the episodes premiering April 18th to April 23rd
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX. Ep.3
Oh yea, another heater of an episode. Machu in her first clan battle still has a lot to learn, but there is more to her than meets the eye. Being able to control the gundam is more than enough to prove this, but in this episode she seems to have more than just simple abilities.
Shuuji is interesting as well, him having the red gundam is interesting as I wonder what he was doing out and about in episode one. He can also communicate with his gundam which is something I hope they explore more on.
Overall, I believe the clan battles will soon go away in favor of progressing the story towards a bigger battle elsewhere, I only hope Machu can improve enough to be ready.
2. Kowloon Generic Romance. Ep. 3
I’m so into this anime, it’s the only way to explain it. This episode had some nice twists which could point to the possibility of body doubles or something along those lines. We have the doctor and Gwen as the hints for this, but Kujirai could also be in the same boat. But, given how well they build mystery, I could be wrong.
As for other parts of the episode, tonguing a girl in her workplace, in front of her boyfriend, is insane. Me personally, I’m airing the whole room out.
Gwen is a confusing character, I’m not sure if the masked man is the same from the bar, or another all together.
The rest of the episode revolves around Kujirai’s struggle with learning of her past and just who she is in connection the Kujirai B. It’s got my attention and I hope the writing continues to be strong. Speaking of the writing, I once again commend it. To have my heart shatter at hearing “I don’t like you.” as it did within only three episodes is fantastic, bravo!
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
3. Lazarus. Ep.3
Let me start by saying, I need the OST playing at the ending scenes of this episode, it was just wonderful. This episode shows some more great animation with Axel showing off some street ball skills and later his combat skills. I agree with that Leland is grandson like, and it is his inclusion that led to finding Skinner’s lovely grandma. I key mystery here however is the pill found by Christine. It could be something pivotal, it could even be the cure for all we know. Whatever the case, this was another enjoyable episode and I still recommend watching this alongisde the other top anime that I believe are amazing right now.
4. Aharen-San. Ep. 3
The classic sports festival trope but very well done here. I like how hard Aharen worked and that she got positive results as well. I will also say that I cheered for Raidou like Vegeta cheered Goku during the tournament of power.
Tamahana represents the worries of many teenagers. The feeling of being left out and overthinking almost everything is common and difficult to overcome, what matters that is that she is kind at heart and that makes her a great friend for Aharen.
The first part of the episode was the best representation of how funny this anime is. The lengths Aharen went to just for Raidou’s sake was great and man Raidou is one busy guy. Of course, Raidou always misinterprets wrong, but that’s just one of the things I love about that guy.
5. Wind Breaker S2. Ep. 4
This was a great episode even without any action. I must say, Sakura living in the ghetto caught me off guard, but he’s making it one way or another.
The highlight of the episode is watching Sakura get the advice he needs to learn and accept help from others. Kaji was a great choice to give him the hard truth, and it was great to learn that he was just using what another upperclassmen told him.
I hope Sakura allows others to help and asks for help from now on, it will only make him stronger and it may be needed with the coming episodes.
6. Apothecary Diaries. Ep. 39
Really enjoyed this episode, making ice cream was a great idea though I wish they would have given us Loulan’s reaction. If you look at her information page, they don’t have any voice actress registered to her so that my imply we will get nothing from her.
Moving on however, a breech delivery sounds scary and MaoMao brings in just the person who could help with the job, none other that Louman. I like Louman, great person, greater doctor, greatest dad, and I hope he will get to show what he can do, of course only if necessary.
The episode ends with a mysterious scene , whatever that will lead to I hope no one I like is harmed. Lishu’s ladies in waiting? Yea do what you will with them.
7. Witch Watch, Ep. 3
Four little Nicos was too cute but a nice treat overall. With word of impending disaster, Morihito is on high alert and it was nice to see him fight. It looks like it wasn’t hard for him as well though his opponent does say they were only a test of skill.
With that, we are introduced to Nico’s crow familiar. Can witches have more than one familiar? I wouldn’t put it past this anime.
Overall, I enjoyed this episode. Nico is a great character in that she is a great representation of someone her age yet with some shortcomings given her upbringing away from normal society. She’s also very funny and her straight man is just as good. Not bad, 8 see through clothes out of 10 dogs.
B: Good/Solid
Yandere Dark Elf. Ep.3
Best episode so far, just the right goon squeezed in within 10 minutes. I like that Hinata shows clear attraction and care for Mariabelle, though he did have his defenses earlier it seems he’s going to let those go very soon. Or he may never get the chance as his old teammates are here to ruin the goon. Don’t ruin it, join the goon! 9 h cups out of 10 goon stoppers.
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
Please Put Them On, Takamine-san. Ep. 3
The JAV scene was wild, but that’s the point of Ecchi. I often just find myself laughing at the ridiculousness of the situations though this one did leave me with a bitter taste last episode. This episode was nice however, Takamine is quite the character but there is the mystery of how she acts with Shirota. She does seem to care about him, but I wonder if this is because he knows of her ability or if there is more there. If it is explored more we could have something nice there. Let’s see, 8 JAV scenes out of 10 bikes.
Makina-san's a Love Bot?!
Gather around for another episode of nothing much gooners. For a short episode series, the episodes seem to drag for me. The first three episodes have been the same plot and Eita is just not interesting at all. If we just had panels of Makina moving around I think I’d be more enteratnied. Also, was the author ever a virgin? I don’t know, 3 Makina parts out of 10 boring Eita’s
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.
The Beginning After the End. Ep. 4
Well, this episode didn’t leave me with the annoying feeling like last episode did. Tessia is nice, a true yapper which is a nice contrast to Arthur who is quiet and serious for the most part. Man, that fight was rough. Frame after frame after frame, we could probably count the frames in this episode and not cross triple digits.
I dislike talking about animation and frames, but the poor quality of this anime is astonishing at points. All I will say is, the failure of this anime will go down I history, but it could also have an incredible redemption as Japanese fans seem to enjoy it somehow. We never know, but I’m not hoping for anything.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
