Anime Summer 2024 Weekly Ranking September 20th to September 26th

These rankings are as of the episodes premiering September 20th to September 26th

S: Must Watch

Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.

1. NieR:Automata Ver1.1a (Cour 2). Ep 23

My head hurts. Red girl, at least that what her name is under the cast list, is such an interesting character for what we have seen of her, them? It’s a psyche attempting to become human, it even suggest giving itself evolutionary pressure and undergoing evolution, though it battles itself on how to undergo such evolution. A wonderful bit that has left me thinking, but not with enough time as the final battle has begun. 9S vs A2. Oh man. 9S is far gone, even victory will end in his demise. His ending journey is such a difficult watch, but one of realistic results given the circumstances. A2 has also been great to watch. She differs in that she has long since been disillusioned by her former purpose, even the reveal of human extinction was of little note to her. Of course, it’s still surprising, but she takes it in and says it par for the course of her former bosses. Man, what a show. What’s in contention for anime of the year? Frieren? If Frieren is in contention then I would give it to either or, with some leaning towards Frieren, but nothing else beating this anime. Mushoku Tensei comes close, but not surpassing it. Still, win or not, this is an incredible watch. On a final note, with all the loss in this anime, I’m surprised at how heart wrenching Devola’s cry was. Props to the voice actress, conveying such sadness in a cry is difficult but she does amazing and pulls tears with ease.

3. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. Ep. 25. FINAL

What a fantastic watch! I love this anime so much as a new viewer. From the stellar the dialogue, the interesting arcs, and the great character drama, it’s such a great piece of work that I recommend to everyone. The standout of this anime is the relationship between Holo and Lawrence, it’s awesome to see them grow and overcome strife. They challenges they face are realistic and at times grand, but their combined intellect is a force to behold and one that is a pleasure to watch. A season 2 announcment has been made and I can’t wait for it, truly a deserving series to receive a second season and I hope it will be just as good. The ending scenes also gave a hint about a possible ending, and I wish for it with all my heart. Remember, "travelers don't leave behind regrets in a village, but good memories." We may be done for now but the memories of this season are awesome.

Stay safe and healthy, hope to see you all in season 2!

2. Oshi No Ko. Ep. 23

Such a well done reveal. The writing is masterful, focusing on B Komachi and their video while also focusing on Aqua just going around made it easy for the audience to not even consider that Ruby was going to find the body. Very well done. Great episode overall, my Aquane heart will never give in! Kana and MEM had some great moments as well, Kana is forever a cutie, and I can feel MEM’s pain in being old. As for the reveal, this may have a disastrous effect on Ruby. Her goal has been to use the idol role to find her beloved, knowing that he is dead may crush her motivation so I look forward to what will happen with her. With any luck Aqua will be able to motivate her. Also Akane immediately telling Ruby to leave as there is a dead body, that’s best girl man!!!!! That’s the goat!!!! In conclusion, Miyako please marry me. See you all in the finale!

4. The Elusive Samurai. Ep. 11

Tokiyuki displayed some great maturity and the qualities of a leader this episode. It’s understandable to fight until the death, a honor filled death, but Tokiyuki believes and conveys that there is more to life, and better options overall. Although it took some forceful methods, I’m glad he was able to convince and look forward to see how they pull out a victory. As usual, the animation this episode was fund to watch and I continue to recommend it to everyone.

A: Very Good

Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.

5. No Longer Allowed in Another World. Ep. 12. FINAL

Rejection gets us all! Sacchan rejecting Sensei was surprising but he has changed even if he denies it. This episode was used to set a lot of things up for the future so I would be surprised if we don’t get a season 2 which I very much want. We also got some foreshadowing to the future of certain characters and reveals yet to come if you play close attention to character design. I also wonder what Sacchan will end up doing and if she will go to battle against Sensei. Overall, very enjoyable please give a season 2. 8.6/10

7. The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies. Ep. 12. FINAL

“You've had me losing me mind since we first met.” Love love love this anime. It’s so simple and sweet, the two main characters are just a joy to watch alone but together they make me so happy. I recommend this to everyone as it is a fun and short watch. I do hope we get something more of this show, I need the sweetness that fills my body every time I see Byakuya and Shun interact. As a romance it stands out as a story about love naturally building and the main characters are so endearing that I give them all my support. 9/10 have a great time with this one.

9. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. Ep. 12

Laxus is so cool man, I still remember when he was the big bad boss, great times. Some more fights settling as well, Wendy looks adorable in her cocoon. Cana is also just, drunk. Honestly not surprised given how much she drinks but I do find it hilarious that she was ready to bust out fairy glitter to win a duel.

6. Wistoria: Wand and Sword. Ep. 11

Surprise entry! I’ve been catching up on this show after some good words spreading about it. Man, this episode does not disappoint, it’s the heart and soul of Shonen and why it remains at the top of the anime world. In short, it’s just so much fun. It’s awesome to watch them overcome what seemed to be impossible, the main character uncovering strength unknown and achieving victory. This anime also has some nice arcs as well, I really the similarity between Will and Wignall. Animation is also amazing, this episode looked incredible from start to finish. I’m struggling to not put it in must watch, I believe later seasons may be, but I’m holding off for now as I did with Spice and Wolf. Give this one a watch, it’s the personification of what many enjoy in anime.

8. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! Ep. 11

Komari continues to be my favorite girl of the series, though Anna was also great this episode. Komari’s worries are so grounded and realistic that makes it easy for the audience to connect with her, it also broke my heart to understand why she took on so many responsibilities.herself. I’m glad everyone has let her know that they will be at her side and seeing them have at the end was great. Nukumizu better step up however, as president and as… well, we’ll know by the end of the series. I’ve really enjoyed this anime, it’s animation is stellar and writing great. It’s only 12 episodes but I do hope we get a season 2.

B: Good/Solid

10. Atri -My Dear Moments- Ep. 11

Don’t scare me like that! There were moments in this episode where I feared for the future of our couple, but we’ve avoided danger for now. Glad Natsuki has decided to return to the mainland and I know he will do good with what he learns. What interests me most is project Eden however. Will this be Natsuki’s role? Or will Atri have to handle it? Whatever it is, I sure hope we get a season 2 of this.

11. 2.5 Dimensional Seduction. Ep. 11

Liliel got ranked 5th by a popular blogger which is great considering the plethora of cosplayers in the scene. I do wonder if she will ever cosplay someone else however. We also got an introduction to another rising star, but my main interest remains on Mayuri! Best girl without a doubt! Also the return of Mikari. I believe she understands Masamune best, though he is too oblivious to realize any of this and I doubt her agency would allow her to date anyway. As we move forward into the second half of the season, I wonder what the focus will be. We may have battles with others cosplayers or even a focus on Mikari. Also who is the fourth girl in the cover art? Looking forward to meeting her as well!

C: It’s ok/Fine

These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.

D: Do Not Recommend

Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.

That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime

This episode was ok. The dungeon had some shenanigans going on. That’s the end of the festival, will we be getting an interesting arc now? Will Rimuru ever face a challenge? Will Shion please get more screen time? Find out next time, on Dragon Ball Z!

F: Bad

Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
