Anime Spring 2024 Weekly Ranking June 14th to June 20th

These rankings are as of the episodes premiering June 14th to June 20th

S: Must Watch

Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.

1. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation 2 Part 2. Ep. 22

My heart is in tatters. I’ve mentioned it before, but I grew to like Paul. A man trying his best, falling to his worst, but never stopping after realizing that he needed to improve as a person, husband, and father. Such self improvement made him deserving of saving Zenith, and his outburst and desperate decision making after seeing her is understandable once all he has gone through is considered. He was not able to, but he died with a smile knowing he did something right in saving Rudeus. Zenith has been saved at a terrible cost, and she remains a husk of what was once Rudeus’s mother. I can’t say I look forward to next week. Of course, I want the episode, but sharing this news with everyone else will break even more hearts than I am prepared to see.

3. Kaiju No. 8. Ep. 10

The reveal is finally here and it is very well done. I’m glad they didn’t drag into another season as seeing Kafka struggle through his inner conflict of when to use his abilities would have been played out. Seeing Mina’s doubt was also a great touch and I’m not surprised by her difficult decision. I wish the best for our favorite old man, but if the show were to end there I wouldn’t have been surprised.

2. Urusei Yatsura. Ep. 46 FINAL

The tears are heavy for this one. After two great years and 46 great episodes, Urusei Yatsura (2022) comes to an end. I enjoyed this show so much and can without a doubt that it is in my personal top 10, no debate. The final episode is fantastic. From Ataru and Lum paying catch, to the final moments where Lum realizes how much Ataru cherishes her. I rave about Usesaka Sumire often, but her final monologue leading to “Congrats, you won.” was symphony to my ears. I reccomend this show to evereyone, it's too much fun not to watch. Looking for spectacular animation, voice acting, music, and wacky storylines, look no further. Urusei Yatsura does what anime wishes to do best, entertain, and for that, I am forever grateful to have stumbled across this show.

4. KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3 Ep. 11 FINAL

A wonderful last episode for this wonderful show! Megumin being unbale to hold in her explosion was great and I’m glad she was able to set it off in the sky and destroy the entire town. My Lalatina x Kazuma heart will remember this season fondly. Overall, this season was filled to the brim with what makes this anime fantastic. I do hope we’ll get more of this in the future, and with a much lower wait time as well.

A: Very Good

Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.

5. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. Ep. 12

Great to see Lawrence come out on top of the struggle he faced. Holo on her knees caught me off guard, but it shows her dedication to keeping those she cares about safe. At first, I believed we wouldn’t see her transformation at all, but we still got it. Her dominating the traitors was great to see. Of course, my favorite parts of the episode were the exchanges between Holo and Lawrence, their chemistry is so good that I’m envious of it. This arc was great watch and I hope Lawrence will grow from it. Looking forward the next arc and wishing the best for the lovely Nora.

6. Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. Ep 11

I’ve caught up! And this has been a great show focusing on learning to love oneself and the realities of passion. This episode focuses on Kiui gaining the courage to express herself as she likes and accept who she is. Such developments are built over multiple episodes and each is concluded in great fashion. Next episode will be the reveal of Kano’s reason to sing, I look forward to it as I desperately need our main girls to make up.

7. Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again. Ep. 11 FINAL

A sweet ending to a sweet show. Finding sincere and caring love like our favorite grandparents of the season had is difficult, but I wish well for anyone fortunate enough to have it. The ending was also sweet as we see the future couple prepared to go through the same. Overall, I enjoyed this show and recommend it for anyone wanting something nice and heartwarming to watch.

9. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc. Ep.6

I was never a fan of the repetitive motion idea during the manga, that has remained the same for the anime. It’s fine, but not anything that blew me away. Overall, the episode is fine, and I believe I am starting to agree with others when they say we could use less screaming from Zenitsu.

8. WIND BREAKER. Ep. 12

Haruka being chosen as class representative was great. We’re on a cooldown after the great fights this show had, yet the animation never becomes dull or bad. Nice episode with seeing Haruka wonder how he can succeed in his position which I believe he will. The final shot of the four kings was awesome and am excited to see the next episode. This may be calling it early, but I expect a season 2 for this show given the direction of the final episodes.

10. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3. Ep. 11

Oh yea, back to meetings baby. I will say, this episode made me less excited for what is to come. Reason being, the result of all the build up we had for the previous arc was underwhelming. Of course, the building from the last meeting extravaganza has built for more than just the fight against Hinata, but I have no desire to sit through seven more episodes of meetings. I will say, the studio added our guest eating in this episode which added some much needed movement to the animation medium whereas before we had our crew just sitting around. Even that little movement is appreciated, I know they have the budget saved for it.

B: Good/Solid

11. Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. Ep 11

Interrupting the love making is going to bring some hefty punishment served by Fenrys. I can never complain about the hot springs episode, but it is funny to see the demon army here as well. The banished hero can never catch a break. Shout out to Tsuya as well, she’s just as ride or die as Fenrys is and hope the banished hero will learn to appreciate her.

12. Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included. Ep 12 FINAL

I nice conclusion to the show. The draw of the show is of course the hoard of cute girls, and I do like most of them. Towa is an absolute sweetheart, and Sayuri is just fun to watch. Still, the show left me wanting for more depth. If we had Towa struggle with living on earth, and learning major lessons about the differences between each world and their people, I believe it would have served to create a more enjoyable show and have more reason for her to stay living with Shintarou. My biggest gripe is Shintarou of course. I don’t enjoy the MC is scared to death of iteration with a woman archetype. It can work if done near the beginning and having him grow out of freaking out after most interactions, but Shintarou remains a static, uninteresting character throughout the show. Still, cute girls gets a thumbs up from me.

C: It’s ok/Fine

These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.

D: Do Not Recommend

Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.

F: Bad

Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
